Wineries in South Africa began to appear in 17th century. They have a fascinating history and heritage with the value always honored and extended by their owners. Today, South African wineries are modern farms full of energy and high wine art. Their secret of unique and awarded wine character lies in people committed to its work and tradition that was never interrupted. ZEBRA WINES is honored to provide this unique experience to European lovers of the highest quality wines.

Our wine portfolio comes from the following wineries:

  • Spier 1692 – one of the largest and oldest winery in Stellenbosch known for their ethical and sustainable activities.
  • Meerlust – a traditional local wine farm from Stellenbosch owned by Myburgh family since 1756 without interruption.
  • La Bri – a local winery from a beautiful Franschhoek valley known for production of low volume, but very quality wine varietals.
  • La Couronne – another Franschhoek winery refers to French Hugenots, a superb wine farmers that sailed to the Cape area in 1688.
  • Lynx Estate – a farm with authentic wines located between wine areas of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek. 
  • Wildeberg - a small farm in Franschhoek producing the most exciting vineyard blocks in the wider Coastal Region.

    From the Stellenbosch area we have selected two wineries: Spier Wines awarded several times as the best winery in South Africa, and Meerlust, representing one of the most known wine brand - Rubicon, a wine with maturation potential up to 30 years. Another Meerlust wine here is Cabernet Sauvignon varietal, which is also one of the the main part of the Rubicon cuvée. Spier Wines complements this collection with Creative Block 2 and Creative Block 3 cuvées and traditional South African Pinotage. Everything is underlined with The Spier Yellow Wood, a cuvée representing today increasingly popular organic wines.

    Franschhoek, or "French corner", is a town located 75 kilometres from Cape Town. It is one of the oldest cities in South Africa, but what is more important that it's a beautiful wine center. In this degustation set there are wines from three local wineries - La Couronne, La Bri and Lynx. La Couronne Pinotage Limited Edition is an excellent sample of this varietal, La Couronne Chardonnay is a harmonic barrique variant of this varietal popular all over the world. La Bri provides the Affinity cuvée and Shiraz varietal. Lynx complements with the Xanache cuvée and Cabernet Sauvignon varietal - both wines with outstanding taste and originally designed bottles, ideal as a present.

You can taste Pinotage both from Spier (in 21 Gables and Seaward ranges) and also from La Couronne in the top Limited Edition range, Chenin Blanc also offers comparison of Spier 21 Gables and Seaward ranges. The set is complemented with Lynx Cabernet Sauvignon, the highest range wine.

    The Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 has an intense, vivid purple colour with slight gradation at the rim. On the nose the wine shows pronounced plum and classic cedar wood-cigar box notes with lifted dark fruit aromas. There is the characteristic hallmark aromas of fennel and liquorice associated with Meerlust Cabernet. On the palate the wine is full bodied but with richness of fruit and supple tannic structure typical of 2016.
